1920s Danish Skønvirke Style Chest Of Drawers Attributed to Hans Karl Kristensen

Regular price £945.00 Sale

1920s Danish Skønvirke style chest of drawers attributed to architect Hans Karl Kristensen.

A 1920s Danish chest of drawers made from solid pine which has aged to a warm, honey-coloured amber patina.

The gallery top, with its slatted wooden rail running around the back and sides, is a particularly nice detail. The upper drawer dividers are decorated with carved blue geometric motifs, while the original drop-ring handles add to the handmade character of the piece.

Skønvirke was Denmark’s answer to the wider Arts & Crafts and Art Nouveau movements of the early 20th century, combining these influences with traditional Nordic craftsmanship and folk decoration.

There is also a typewritten shipping label on the back, addressed to mechanic Harald Kristensen, Sonderport 7, Frejasgade, Horsens. We found records of Harald Kristensen living and working at this address as a registered mechanic during the 1940s. It’s a possibility he was a relative of Hans Karl Kristensen, seeing as Ry is only 30km from Horsens, although we’ve not managed to confirm this but it ties an interesting bit of history to the piece.
