German Jugendstil oak desk, dating from around 1900–1920. A well-made and elegant piece, featuring a tooled leather writing surface, beautifully cast brass escutcheons, and mother-of-pearl inlays to the sides and rear. The design sits somewhere between German Jugendstil and the more refined Secessionist furniture of neighbouring Austria, giving it a distinctive transitional character.
Retaining its original key and working locks, this is a smart and practical desk with excellent craftsmanship throughout.
