French wall mirror dating from the 1940s, designed in the manner of Gilbert Poillerat. The circular mirror is set within an elegant gilt and patinated bronze frame, surmounted by a finely cast mascaron and enriched with scrolling acanthus leaf decoration. A beautifully decorative piece with the refined neoclassical styling associated with Poillerat's work.
The mirror retains its original plate, which has developed some age-related foxing and light wear to the silvering, as shown in the photographs. This adds to its character and is typical of mirrors of this period.
